Writing in the Age of AI will help writing teachers address AI tools in their classrooms and provide their students needed guidance on ethical AI use, critical evaluation of AI-generated content, and development of authentic writing voices that AI cannot replicate. The CTN grant will support the two-week Summer Institute to prepare 25 K-12 teachers from across Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne County to navigate the intersection of writing instruction and artificial intelligence. Writing in the Age of AI will be based on the National Writing Project’s proven Social Practices model. Teacher leaders who complete the Institute will form the core of a Tri-County Writing Network, providing peer-led professional development across districts. Cohort members will also serve as mentors for future institute participants, creating a sustainable leadership pipeline. Oakland Schools will continue support for Institute participants through its existing professional learning infrastructure.
