The grant will to provide students on the Autism Spectrum an opportunity to create and use video modeling as a means to learn appropriate school and community behaviors. Video modeling is a mode of teaching that uses video recording and display equipment to provide a visual model of the targeted behaviors or skill. In video self-modeling, individuals observe themselves performing a behavior successfully on video and then imitate the targeted behavior. Students in the middle school self-contained Autism classroom will help create videos of appropriate classroom and community behaviors (saying hello, starting conversations, walking in the hallway, sitting in a desk, asking questions, ordering lunch in the cafeteria, etc.). This project will have the added benefit of students learning from their peers which is a research-based approach to learning for students on the Autism Spectrum.
